The On-Pointe Dance program is a progressive program open to children ages 3 years and older.  Students will be divided according to experience level in the following classes.

Little Stars: This is a gentle introductory class that includes learning to move to music and developing motor and listening skills in a fun, creative environment.

Pre-Ballet: This beginner class introduces basic ballet techniques through fun movement while focusing on coordination skills and self-expression.

Ballet/Tap/Jazz Combo: A combination of ballet, tap, and jazz. This combination class will build on foundational skills of ballet, the styles of tap, and the upbeat fast-paced movement of jazz to help with coordination, flexibility, and musicality. Fun dance routines and up-to-date music makes kids excited to come back week to week.

Ballet I: More advanced stretching and strengthening exercises are given, and barre work is introduced with a greater emphasis on vocabulary and French terminology.

Ballet II/III: This is more advanced stretching and strengthening exercises, barre work is continued with a greater emphasis on vocabulary, musicality, balance, and coordination, as well as French terminology.

Tap: This dance emphasizes the flow of movement by teaching the dancer to find rhythms and beats not only in music but in their own bodies.

Jazz: Emphasis is on the importance of energy, rhythmical accuracy, and style. Each level of jazz is a continuation of the previous level and increases in difficulty.

Lyrical II/III: In this class, we will combine techniques learned in ballet and jazz to create movements performed to music with lyrics. This is a great way to inspire movement & expression of emotions based on the dancer’s interpretation of the music.

Jazz/Hip Hop II/III: Emphasis on popping, locking, and other hip-hop movements that are utilized in only Hip-Hop dance. Must be 10 years and older for this class.

New Dance Teacher – Jill Rector

The Frankfort Park District would like to introduce and welcome Ms. Jill Rector, our new Dance Instructor. Jill will join Ms. Kristen Bruns as our instructor this Fall 2023 for the Frankfort On Pointe Dance Program. She will be teaching Ballet/Tap/Jazz (5-6 years), Ballet 2, Jazz 2 & Tap 2 (10-12 years), Tap 3 (13-18 years), and Dance Troupe.

Ms. Jill began dancing at age 3 and has studied all forms of dance. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia College with an emphasis in both teaching and performance/choreography. She is also a certified personal trainer and choreographer for a local children’s theater group, and most recently choreographed Lincoln-Way West’s spring musical.

“When my youngest brother was enrolled in a class at the park district, I used to sit and watch the class. One day the instructor said she needed help and asked if I wanted to be her assistant. I enjoyed it so much and went on to assist her for a few years until I was old enough to teach my own classes. And because of that, I knew I wanted to become a teacher. I had been in dance since I was three, so it became obvious that I would become a dance teacher and could not imagine doing anything else.” Said Jill.

Jill has been teaching dance in the south suburbs for over 30 years. As a dance teacher, she aims to share her passion for dance with all her students. She feels that it is important for her students to feel confident and inspired while growing in a comforting and encouraging environment. “Dance is the only art of which we ourselves are the stuff of which it is made.” (Quote by Ted Shawn)

Jill has lived in New Lenox with husband Jim for over 30 years and has two children Jade and Nate.

Frankfort On Pointe Dance Troupe – KAR Kids Artistic Revue

Regional Dance Competition in Chicago, Illinois, Rialto Square Theater, on March 11-13, 2022.

The Frankfort On Pointe Dance Troupe performed at the KAR Dance competition at the Rialto Theater. The group took 6 dances to competition and each dance received a Top First Place Award. The contemporary piece “Everyday Life” ranked 8th overall in their division, and their hip hop dance “Juice” ranked 7th overall. The girls also received special judges’ awards: “Best Costume” for “Everyday Life” and “Electric Energy” for “Get Ready.” Peyton Dobush choreographed the piece “Clean” which was the first ever solo to compete in the program’s history. We are incredibly proud of all of the girls’ hard work and cannot wait to see them compete again next month!
