Dance Instructor – Ms. Kristen Bruns
Ms. Kristen received a bachelor’s degree in education from Western Illinois University and comes to the park district with 23 years of experience teaching ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, and contemporary styles of dance. She said, “I have always enjoyed working with children and the fun and curiosity they exude. Teaching dance and sharing something I love with children seemed like the right path for me after dancing for much of my childhood.”
Dance Instructor – Ms. Jill Rector
Mrs. Jill Rector teaches Ballet/Tap/Jazz (5-6 years), Ballet 2, Jazz 2 & Tap 2 (10-12 years), Tap 3 (13-18 years), and Dance Troupe.
Mrs. Jill began dancing at age 3 and has studied all forms of dance. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia College with an emphasis in both teaching and performance/choreography. She is also a certified personal trainer and choreographer for a local children’s theater group, and most recently choreographed Lincoln-way West’s spring musical.
“When my youngest brother was enrolled in a class at the park district, I used to sit and watch the class. One day the instructor said she needed help and asked if I wanted to be her assistant. I enjoyed it so much and went on to assist her for a few years until I was old enough to teach my own classes. And because of that, I knew I wanted to become a teacher. I had been in dance since I was three, so it became obvious that I would become a dance teacher and could not imagine doing anything else.” said Jill.
Jill has been teaching dance in the south suburbs for over 30 years. As a dance teacher, she aims to share her passion for dance with all her students. She feels that it is important for her students to feel confident and inspired while growing in a comforting and encouraging environment.
KAR Dance Competitions
A team of 9 dancers from OnPointe Dance Troupe competed in 2 dance competitions this winter – Turn It Up Dance Competition and Kids Artistic Revue (KAR). The girls brought home many banners and trophies over two fun weekends of competition. The full team won first place, high overall points, and a special award for story telling in their large group dance. We are so proud of our trio and small group for placing first and getting the top overall score in both competitions. Our three senior soloists – Lucy, Erin, and Emma – all created beautiful choreography and were rewarded with high score awards, top 5 overall placement, and also taking 1st (Emma) and 2nd (Lucy) in the overall at KAR. Erin received the “Heart of Gold’ Award! This was only given to one dancer in the competition. It is an award given to the dancer that shows the most heart, soul and passion in their performance. Way to go Adalie, Avery, Brenna, Caroline, Emma, Erin, Lucy, Patricia, and Stephanie! We are so incredibly proud of you!
