Lincolnway Special Recreation Association Lincolnway Special Recreation Association (or LWSRA) is a co-op of 5 park districts (Frankfort, Mokena, New Lenox, Manhattan and Peotone) who have agreed to fund LWSRA so that they can offer programs for people with special needs. According to the mission statement of LWSRA, these programs are developed with the intention of eliminating any recreational barriers and to facilitate the participants in developing a balance of leisure and socialization skills, recreation resources and opportunities, knowledge and independence, provided in a variety of settings. All of these will contribute to the participants’ well-being in their recreational lifestyle. LWSRA offers programs for special needs patrons both young and old. “Day by Day” is a unique adult day program that meets Tuesday through Friday each week at the Founders Center. The program focuses on socialization, recreation, and life skills. LWSRA also offers a full range of activities from bus trips to bowling leagues, from soccer to swimming and from social clubs to special events. For more information or to receive a copy of their current program brochure, please contact Director Lana Graser at 815-464-2811. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. |
